Choosing a boiler

Boilers come as combi, system or regular models, each suited to different homes. The right one for you depends on how much hot water your household uses, how much space you have, and how much heat your property needs. We'll talk through the options during a free consultation and recommend the boiler that actually suits your home, not the most expensive one on the van.

The installation process

Every installation follows the same five stages - consultation, preparation, the fit itself, testing, and clean-up - so you know exactly what to expect at each point.

1. Consultation. We assess your home size and layout, hot water usage, and any energy efficiency goals or preferences, then recommend the size and type of boiler needed, with an estimated cost and a no-obligation quote.
2. Site survey & preparation. Before the installation date is booked, an engineer visits (or reviews photos of your existing boiler and flue terminal) to assess the space and confirm the right parts and ventilation are in place. On the day, the installation area is cleared of clutter so the team can work safely.
3. The fit. The old boiler and electrics are switched off, gas is isolated and tested for leaks, then the central heating system is flushed and cleaned before your new boiler is installed.
4. Testing. Pressure tests check for system leaks (typically 1.0-1.5 bar), a flue gas analysis samples the exhaust for oxygen, CO2 and carbon monoxide levels, and pumps, valves, thermostats and safety controls are all functionally tested and calibrated.
5. Clean-up & registration. Debris is cleared and the workspace restored, a final inspection confirms everything is complete, and the boiler is registered with Gas Safe, Building Control and the manufacturer. Your old boiler is taken away so you don't have to deal with it.

How to prepare for installation day

• Clear enough space around your boiler and a clear pathway for the engineer to bring equipment in
• Know where your water, gas and fuse box are within the house
• Plan for a brief disruption - water is typically off for around 20 minutes, gas can be off for up to 3 hours, and hot water may not be available for around 4 hours. Electricity is generally unaffected
• Let us know if you have young children or anyone elderly in the house, so we can arrange backup heating if needed

When's the best time to install?

There's no wrong time, but summer is often most convenient - it's when your boiler is used the least, meaning less disruption and no risk of being left without heating in cold weather while you wait for a slot. If you're planning ahead for winter, booking your survey in the warmer months is a sensible way to avoid the autumn rush.
