Gas Fire Questions
How often should a gas fire be serviced?
At least once every 12 months. Landlords must have every gas appliance, including gas fires, safety-checked every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Can you fix my gas fire the same day?
Often, yes. We offer 1-hour, same-day and next-day response, and most faults are fixed on the first visit.
My gas fire is old. Is it worth repairing?
We'll tell you honestly. If it is safe and repairable, we repair it. If not, we explain why and quote for your options before any work starts.
Do you provide a landlord gas safety certificate?
Yes. We carry out landlord gas safety checks and issue the certificate (CP12) for landlords and letting agents.
Do you cover my area?
We cover the BA, BS, GL and SN postcode areas from our base in Filton, Bristol.
Buying a house and the seller says two gas fires are 'disconnected'. Should I be concerned?
Yes, get them checked before you exchange. 'Disconnected' can mean the supply has been properly capped and tested, or only turned off at the valve. A Gas Safe engineer can confirm the pipework is capped safely and tell you what is needed to bring a fire back into use.
My balanced flue gas fire has a problem. What should I do?
Common causes are a blocked or restricted flue, a dirty burner or a faulty safety device, and none of these is a DIY job. If you see soot or yellow flames, or feel unwell, turn the fire off and do not use it until a Gas Safe engineer has inspected it.
My Gas Safe engineer classed my fire as 'At Risk'. What does that mean?
'Immediately Dangerous' means the appliance must be disconnected and made safe. 'At Risk' means it should not be used until it is repaired. You can ask for a written quote, and you are free to get a second opinion from another Gas Safe engineer.
Is this a proper annual gas fire check, or is it dodgy?
A proper check covers the fire's operation, the flue, ventilation, gas tightness and safety devices, and you should get a written record. Ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card and look them up on the Gas Safe Register. Ours is 969370.
My carbon monoxide alarm went off. What should I do?
Treat it as real. Turn off the appliances, open doors and windows, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. Get medical advice if anyone feels unwell. Beep patterns differ by model, so check your alarm's manual for what a short beep or fault signal means.
